Civilized society, they are bedrock of society. If we compromise on them, it is not that the individuals will suffer.
Social interactions are necessarily voluntary. No law can force a person to interact with others. If they are voluntary, then both parties will interact only when both feel safe to do so. That is, neither has a handle on the other.
So when a group, any group, manages to privilege itself by getting some law enacted in its favour, other members of the society soon withdraw from the interactions with the group members.
Days turn, time passes. Decades later, you see a garbage heap in place of society, and you wonder what happened.
The biggest strength of the Leftists is their control on media and academia. That way, nobody is able to broadcast the connections, even if one is able to figure out, between the laws passed to address the victimhood paraded by the Leftists, and their consequences.

If we compromise on them, it is not that the individuals will suffer. But we will all suffer. Because without these principles, no society is possible, and without society, the planet is hell.
